Welcome.
Fartcan racing is an Online sim racing community, a few guys who started out racing with no Sim racing experience and found that the major race leagues are packed with experienced Sim Racer's who’ve been doing this for years and as a result we found it difficult to be competitive, so we decided to create a Race League for those starting out or those who are not at the pointy end of the …

Some Hints & Tips. Empty Some Hints & Tips.

OK
here’s some Hints and Tips that may help with your enjoyment of the game.
There are a lot of changes you can make from within the game that will help with the overall enjoyment level. These changes are made using the keys on your computer Keyboard

If your car is heavily damaged or is stuck in the sand you can press the ESC button on the keyboard to restart from the pits. Although if you hit ESC in a Race you will be ejected from the Race.

When you are at the Monitor screen where all the drivers names are listed you can click on another driver then go to the TV screen lower right corner click to enlarge you are now a passenger with that driver you can select and scroll thru several views using the INSERT button on the keyboard This is a great tool for new drivers, pick an experienced driver press INSERT scroll to the rear of car view, a bar at the bottom displays Gear, Revs, Speed etc and you can see the brake lights so it helps determine where the brake markers are , gear to use and revs / speed for that corner. You can also scroll from one car to another using the + and –keys. By right clicking on yours or anyones name you will see their lap times for the laps they have run

When driving your own vehicle you can scroll thru different views using the INSERT key again. When watching a replay or another driver you can use the Home / Page Up / Page Down keys to view from numerous angles, with Page Up button you can use number keys (On number pad) to move all around the vehicle.

In driving view at the bottom of the screen you’ll have a scrolling driver position bar, a Tacho and a control HUD LCD Box you can remove and reinstall these using the 4 -7 keys on the keyboard The LCD Box lower right of screen has lots of car info Tyre temps Pits Stop info, Engine info you can scroll thru this using the ENTER button. When driving from the Bonnet or TV cockpit view you will have rear view mirrors top of screen these can be toggled using the number 4 button, Although you should ensure that when racing you always have good rear vision.

Vehicle Headlights are available using the H button but must never be used during a race as they place a high demand on server download and will affect other with weaker signals.

The server is set up with 3 driver assists assigned to LOW, they are Stability control F4 key, Traction control F8 key and Anti lock Brakes F9 key. as you gain experience start turning these off as you will become a better driver without them.
They have been enabled to help the new drivers.

That’s all I can think of at the moment if you have any more tips tricks or hints please feel free to post them up.

(Sim View)
This small program consists of 2 programs, The main program Sim Adapter can be loaded on your main pc and a secondary program Sim View on your secondary pc on your nretwork. I have Sim View loaded on a Laptop that sits beside my main monitor, others have Sim View running on a small 15" LCD which is an ideal size for an information screen.

"TvStyle" view is a very useful plugin too (it can be found on rfactorcentral/simraceway) and i beleive it is well worth downloading.
Apparently the map plugin is also good, (particulkarly when trying to learn a new track) though i am yet to try it.
Heres a link

Another good way to watch another driver is to hit the race button as per normal and then hit the numpad+ key to rotate through to the desired driver, doing it this way you can see what gear they are in etc without being in cockpit view.

Good Stuff guys very helpfull, Just what this section is about.
I use TV style and love it the live update split time info is fantastic, let's you know exactly how your lap is going compared to the fastest guy on the server at that point in time.

I reckon that Sim Adapter / Sim View would be a great tool also I think i'll give it a go.

Thanks Guys
Anyone else tried something they like (Must be to do with Sim Racing or the Bedroom), Post Away, Your Fartcan friends are eager to know about it.

Well this one is a bit McGyver-ish but you might like it....you need a dwarf, a donkey, a turkey baster, a pole and some industrial (heat resistant) lube. First you get the....hangon... you were just joking about the bedroom weren't you.

Some Hints & Tips. Empty Re: Some Hints & Tips.

Here's a few tips I found:-

Track mismatches
If you can't log on the server because you are having terrain.tdf problems, copy the file from a working rfactor install (its in your gamedata\locations folder) to that folder in the rfactor install that stopped working

If you don't have the right track installed, please download it from our download thread.

Still having problems? Maybe you have too many files in our Locations folder. You only need commonmaps.mas and terrain.tdf - simply delete all the other files (not the folders).

Micro-jumps
If your instance of rFactor "jumps", you may need to enable both cores on your CPU (if you have a dual core processor). The easiest way to do this is to add +FullProc to your rfactor icon to launch the sim. To do this, simply right-click on your rfactor icon on your desktop and select properties. Go to the Target line and add +fullproc to the end - so it looks something like: "C:\Program Files\rFactor\rFactor.exe" +fullproc. Note where the quotes and spaces are... There have been a couple people who said their system didn't work quite right after this, but it's very rare and is highly recommended you do this adjustment - even if you don't have a problem. Your PC will work easier - especially at the start of the race and with our very large fields.

Sounds
If you're getting weird sounds (like wheelguns repeating) or the crowd singing while the race is going on, replace the normal sounds file in your sounds\ambient folder. For some reason some tracks are worse than others and cause this corruption.

Headlights reducing FPS
To improve night-time FPS, you can edit your PLR file. Make sure the following 2 lines are set (in the graphics options): Max Headlights = "4" and Headlights On Cars = "0" and reduce your shadows setting (in the display options).

If you change Headlights on cars to 0, it helps FPS a lot, but it doesn't look as realistic (lights don't reflect on cars).
Max Headlights shows how many headlights will appear to be on (that number of cars nearest you). You can increase this number, but it impacts FPS significantly if you have headlights on cars = 1. It's recommended you test this number, in many cases it can be raised to 8 or more.

TryMedia Error
If rFactor won't start when you click on it, and you get a "trymedia" error then you have an issue with trymedia (rFactor license) and your system clock. To fix it:
- open your Windows clock (in your taskbar at the bottom of the screen)
- Change year to one forward and click apply.
- Open rFactor game, it should start now.
- When game is open go to the clock and change it back to current year, and press apply. It's fixed now.

FPS drops when driving past the pits
If you have problems with fps when passing the pits and it's full of cars. Change this in your PLR. Looks something this in the PLR
Garage Detail="1.0000" // LOD multiplier when vehicle is in garage (0.01-1.00)
Change the value 1.000 to 0.5 or something even lower. Remember to keep the quotes

Preparing to Reinstall (prevent losing your license key)
- Copy the folder TryMedia from within: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ here
- Then when you have reinstalled everything just copy this folder back into the Application Data folder, and rFactor is running like before.
